| Review: The Dark Knight |

Today I was rudely awoken at 9:30 in the morning. Before I had a chance to release my anger on my father however, he told me that we would be going to see the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight. This calmed me down because I had heard some pretty great things about it. In short, they were correct. We got to the theatre after eating breakfast and we were still early. The movie started at 12:30 and we had shown up at 11:30. So, I had two choices: either go and cause trouble or go hit on random attractive girls. Since all the chicks working there were ugly and since I have a girlfriend, I ended up causing trouble instead. And by 'causing trouble' I mean flooding the bathroom. And by 'flooding the bathroom' I mean just pissing off the employees in any way possible. Anyway, I went in and got a nice spot at the top of theatre, because anyone who sits up front and has to look back and forth to see the movie is a dumbass. People started crowding in, fat people, skinny people, nerds, hot girls, the whole mix. And eventually, the movie started, although not before I got to hear 'Them Kids' which is a fairly awesome song. The effects were good, the story was good, I only had a few issues with the movie:
The first issue was with Bruce Wayne's friend Rachel Dawes, who is one of the only people that knows Batman's real identity. My issue isn't with her acting or with her part or anything, but with the actress. They replaced the incredibly hot Katie Holmes with Maggie Gyllenhall.
Sure, the point was to make it look like she had aged, but did they really need to age her that much? Maggie looks like she's at least ten years older in a movie that took place a year or so later than the one before it. Then you get the Joker, who also had an issue with looks. Nothing against Heath Ledger, who did a great job. The problem is with whoever designed the costume. The Joker is supposed to look the way he does because he fell into chemicals and ended up deformed, thus his insanity. Instead, he looks like he's put on some bad makeup. The biggest problem was with Batman's refusal to kill. When Batman started, he wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty. He would kill if he needed to. But now, he wouldn't kill one man to save a hospital full of people, he wouldn't kill random thugs and he wouldn't kill the psychopath Joker. Overall, I think that The Dark Knight deserves am 8/10 because while it had a few errors, it was still an easy movie to get into and it was enjoyable to watch. Plus, the Joker sounded like a retarded guy I know, so they get points for that. |
